DDR3 vs ddr3l
L=lower voltage 1.5 vs 1.35
Things to consider before buying a ram for pc ,/ laptop
1.maximum supported ram,
dual ram slots gives additional performance when compared to single ram.
However buying 2x 8gb rams individually , better for buying 16gb ram,
Buying 4gb rams now maybe outdated except in 2nd sale.
3.maxium supported bandwidth
(I bought 244mhz it’s old i5 2nd gen processor supports 1600mhz)
32 bit processor /os 64 bit
,Now a days all are 64bit , if you install 32 bit on windows on 64bit processor.
Seriously it’s limited the performance
32, bit system only supports upto 4gb ram.
Ddr3 vs ddr4 vs ddr5 ddr6
Each and every generation aims to
Higher speed & lower voltage.
As of now 2020 intel supports only upto ddr4.
But graphic cards at ddr5&ddr6 (ddr4 outdated gpus).
RAM bandwidth speed?
Be sure to check out the maximum memory bandwidth supported processor.
in every generation higher bandwidth version available with slightly higher price.
Just a lower voltage with above speed
Ram voltage /power consumption
How to check supported ram by your /pc latop?
Just windows task manager,
Click performance & memory
You can see memory type & available slots.
Ddr3l with 1300mhz
also check the processor
Ex i5 2nd gen 5320M suppoy ddr3l but not at maximum speed rate, if you install higher bandwidth ram it utlizes only supported bandwidth.
generallt laptops do have 2 memory channels.
Desktops 2-4based on mother board.
Newer version of Rams tend to higher price.
(Because of R&D)
consider price to performance wait for few time to get cheaper price.
Ex: intel previous generation price drops as soon as next gen release.
sometimes lower generation processor with less computing power than present generation sold at high because of popularity on amazon ex: amd ryzen 2nd gen x series processor.
How memory bandwidth calculated?
MT/S Memory clock speed
& Memory width in bits.(32,64,128,256).
